The Asphalt Tanker Trailer—also known as a Bitumen Tanker Trailer—is a critical piece of equipment for road and bridge construction, designed exclusively for transporting hot liquid asphalt, bitumen, and asphalt emulsion. Unlike standard tankers, it features a heat-insulated tank that maintains bitumen at 160–180°C (the optimal temperature for road laying), ensuring the material remains fluid and workable upon arrival. Constructed from premium Q235 carbon steel, the trailer has a volume range of 25–60 cbm (25,000L–60,000L) and is engineered to withstand high temperatures and corrosive bitumen. It is an indispensable tool for construction companies, road maintenance teams, and asphalt producers, as it guarantees the quality of bitumen during transport.
The tanker’s double-layer tank (inner layer 5mm/6mm Q235 steel, outer layer 3mm steel) is filled with high-density mineral wool insulation (100mm thickness). This design reduces heat loss by less than 5°C per hour—ensuring bitumen stays within the 160–180°C range even during 8-hour trips in cold weather (e.g., -10°C). The tank also has a temperature gauge (with digital display) for real-time monitoring.
Bitumen’s high temperature and chemical composition can corrode standard steel, but the trailer’s Q235 carbon steel tank is treated with a heat-resistant coating (epoxy resin) that resists corrosion and scaling. The dished ends (6mm/7mm Q235 steel) are also reinforced to handle thermal expansion, preventing tank deformation over time.
Equipped with a high-pressure asphalt pump (10–15 MPa) and large-diameter discharging valves (3”/4”/6”), the trailer unloads 60 cbm of bitumen in just 45–60 minutes. The pump is driven by the tow truck’s power take-off (PTO) system, ensuring reliable operation without additional fuel. The discharging pipe is also heat-insulated to prevent bitumen from solidifying in the line.
Road builders need a steady supply of hot bitumen to avoid delays. The Asphalt Tanker Trailer’s heat-insulated tank ensures bitumen is ready for paving immediately upon arrival, eliminating the need for on-site reheating (which saves 1–2 hours per load). The 60 cbm volume also matches the output of standard asphalt mixing plants, ensuring continuous paving.
In rural or mountainous areas, road maintenance teams often face long transport distances (50–100km) and cold temperatures. The trailer’s insulation system maintains bitumen temperature even in sub-zero weather, while its 3/4-axle configuration (with 12–16 tires) provides stable traction on winding mountain roads. The compact 25 cbm model is also suitable for narrow rural roads.
Asphalt producers supplying multiple small job sites (e.g., parking lot repairs) benefit from the trailer’s optional compartments (2–3 sections). Each compartment can hold different types of bitumen (e.g., modified vs. standard) or quantities, allowing the trailer to deliver to 2–3 sites in one trip—reducing fuel costs and travel time.
Our engineers help customers select the right insulation thickness based on local climate (e.g., 120mm for cold regions) and design the tank’s heating system (optional diesel heaters for extreme cold). We also provide training on temperature monitoring and pump operation.
We offer custom tank shapes (round or square) to fit customers’ tow trucks, as well as customized manhole covers (1–9 pieces, 500mm diameter) for easy tank cleaning. For high-altitude areas, we modify the pump pressure to account for lower atmospheric pressure.
We provide a 2-year warranty on the heat insulation and asphalt pump. Our service team offers on-site repairs for pump or valve issues, and we supply heat-resistant gaskets, valves, and pump parts with global shipping. We also offer annual tank inspection services to check for corrosion or insulation damage.
